U 16 John Harte cup last 32
OMP UTD 2-2 Borora Juniors AET
OMp won 5-3 on penalties
A sensational display by both team on a windy Saturday morning in Navan saw the home team advance to the next round to face Parkceltic Summerhill . Both teams had not played any competitive games for a few weeks and this was evident in the first half as defences were on top through and not many clear chances of note created.
OMP struck first as some attacking play led to their striker flashing the ball past Leo Fitzgerald in the nets to give the home team the advantage going into the break.
Borora settled down in the second half and began to dominate possession around the midfield with Sean Behan, Lochlann O’Reilly, Jack Shalvey Ross Blair, Caoimhín Cussen and Aidan Roche excelling on the ball.
Diarmuid O’Malley and Eanna Bennett were struggling to get going with the three players watching them any time they received the ball. Second half Injuries to Adam O’Brien and Daniel Stafford meant a defensive reshuffle with Luke Quinn and Dovidas Glassas dropping in to help see out the match alongside the excellent Mikey Smith.
After much pressure from the visitors a slalom rum from Roche left three midfielders in his wake and the last defender crudely caught him to give Borora a last ditch attempt to equalise. Up stepped Jack Butler to rifle past the home keeper to send the visiting suporters into raptures. It was no more than what the team deserved for their efforts. Full time 2-2
Extra time and OMP struck again from a deft free kick outside the box which evaded the visitors keeper . Borora responded again with David Daly , Niall Rogan, and Eoin Gilsenan pushing and pushing to try to get back into the game. Good play down the left from Shalvey forced a corner and from the resulting cross the ball dropped to O’Reilly to finish to the net for a deserved equaliser. Still the visitors pushed for the win but time ran out and a penalty shootout ensured.
OMP scores all five penalty attempts to move onto the next round. Unfortunately our cup adventure is done for this season.
