U’16 Duvision 2. Borora jnrs 1 - Walshestown 0.
We’ll take that ! We’ll just take it .
Following on from excellent first day wins for our U’12’s and 14’s our new look u’16s were next up for an opening day clash with an old foe who last season beat us 1-0 away and who we squeezed by with a Calum Sherlock winner at home in a 9 goal thriller . This game could have went the same way with the post and crossbar being struck on five separate occasions . Shots from Fionn Nulty , Jayden Sherlock , Tom Kerrigan and an opposition player all denied certain goals . But it was a shot from centre back Oisin Gardiner that cracked off the bar led to the opening and only goal of the game when it fell kindly to captain Jayden Sherlock who calmly slotted home in the 37th minute .
With injuries , lack of match fitness , new players being blooded and a long, long winter that suddenly turned to summer , (water breaks were required ) this game could have went either way .
We battled on and everything was left on the pitch ! Some wayward shooting and excellent defending from our back five of Conor Sheehan (replaced through injury by Sam Norton ) , Oisin Gardiner , Adam Kieran , goal keeper Joey Kerr and coolness personified , man of the match at right back Daniel O’Reilly ! Special mention to Logan Wilson who kept us on the front foot every time he received the ball ! A tough game played in a great spirit by all involved !
We won’t take Greenland 🇬🇱 or Cuba 🇨🇺 but we’ll take that ! Well done everyone!! Borora Abu !
