2-0 up and cruising ! What ? I’m sure I heard that one quite recently . When our players came in for their half time break there were smiles on faces and pats on backs ! That’s never a good sign .
Borora , as requested started on the front foot . The post was struck in the second minute . Undeterred ; Borora continued in the same vein . A sweeping move from back to front in the seventh minute saw Logan Wilson , who again was excellent, rescue the ball from the touch line , push it behind the defender for Henry Pratt to drive a low cross into the path of Jayden Sherlock who casually redirected the ball past the flailing keeper and saw it nestle into the back of the onion sac . Three minutes later the lead was doubled . This time Henry . P. went on a solo run . Twisting inside one defender and outside another Henry ignored pleas to shoot , instead creating a direct shooting chance which he smashed past the keeper rippling the roof of the rigging .
2-0 and cruising ! Mmmm!
Only for the outstretched foot of keeper Josh Byrne who shmeicalesque , star fish style turned a certain goal around the post denying a certain goal !

Please don’t do an Ireland on it ! Please ! A salutary warning or tempting fate ??
Duleek’s half time team talk may have been something like we cannot afford to lose our first two games in a seven team league so give it everything you’ve got !! And they did ! They threw everything at us . I’m sure I saw a kitchen sink fly past our goal at some point !
We defended so well though ! Dan White dropped into the centre of defence , Henry P. and Jayden S . dropped into CDM roles and snuffed out attack after attack ! 20 minutes of pure pressure was relieved when in the 22 nd minute a hopeful ball into the edge of the box found substitute Shane Olwell who nodded into the path of Jayden S. whose first effort cannoned off a defender back into his feet and this time rounded him and slotted his second and Bororas third beyond the keepers outstretched arm .
I’ll make a note of that !! Cries of hopeful delight!! Sorry what just happened there ? Within an instant it was 3-1 . A mistake at the back and Duleek had the lifeline of a goal . Minutes later it was 3-2 . The Duleek striker beat the onrushing keeper and slipped the ball under him . It seemed to take an age to trickle toward the goal and Dan Whites last gasp effort to keep the ball from crossing the line was a painful millisecond too late ! Yes he rashered his knee and shin ! But he got the man of the match award for dogged determination and critical interventions! They hung in the till the bitter end . It wasn’t all one way traffic and we had our chances to re establish a two goal lead . Most notably a booming cross from Markus G. who had muscled his way past his defender found the head of the effervescent Tom Kerrigan who with agility and bravery saw his effort blaze just over the crossbar ! Thankfully no repeat performance of the unmentionable!
The most pleasing thing about the performance was that the boys , realising the pressure they were under gathered themselves as a group , focused and communicated ! A very mature win ! Well done all 13 players .
As alluded to earlier for both teams a win was necessary in a league of seven teams . Duleek couldn’t afford to loose two on the bounce and Borora couldn’t afford to drop points in their opening two home games . These 6 points seem even more necessary now that overnight this league has gone from seven teams to fourteen !! Did I mention ?
