Youths: Borora 1:5 Johnstown
Our Youths side hosted Johnstown (Division 2 last season) this morning in what was always going to be a step up in standard as we move from Under-16s football.
With five or six new faces in the squad and many of the players lining up together for the first time, it was always going to take time for the team to gel and get used to each other.
It was all square until the half-hour mark when the visitors broke the deadlock. Their number 7 and 9 were a constant menace and they scored another two in quick succession before the break.
A sloppy start to the second half saw us concede a fourth before Adam Hannigan pulled one back to offer a glimmer of hope. There wasn’t much between the sides apart from some clinical finishing and we conceded a fifth as we chased a way back into the game.
A tougher test than most of last season, but plenty of positives to build on once the new group gets a few more games together.
