Borora Juniors v OMP Utd
Borora Juniors were back in action on a blustery and soggy Saturday morning against OMP United in Moynalty.
Borora started the brighter side, probing for the opener whilst OMP settled in and were content to get bodies behind the ball whilst breaking fast on the counter. Borora had a few half chances to get the breakthrough with Kyle Brunton through on goal a few times with the referee blowing up in what looked like a few tight calls for off side, and the time he did spring the trap, could only strike over the bar with only the keeper to beat. The away side had there first effort on goal when a clumsy challenge from McIlhern led to a penalty after 25 minutes. The resulting spot kick was easily saved by the impressive Kavanagh in the Borora goal.
The game continued in the same fashion until the ref blew for half time with the score goalless.
It was the visitors turn to push at the start of the second half and got the breakthrough when the attacker got the benefit of the doubt in a tight off side call and slotted past Kavanagh to give the away side a fortunate lead.
Shortly after, the away side thought they had double their advantage when the impressive No 10 headed home, only to be adjudged offside, correctly by the official.
OMP soon doubled, then trebled their advantage when some sloppy play at the back by Borora led to the striker sliding home his second, then third.
Borora never gave up the fight and took the game to OMP once again and we’re finally rewarded for their effort when a stunning strike from Hannigan on the edge of the box flew into the roof of the net, beyond the keeper outstretched effort.
Breen Kavanagh shone for Borora between the sticks along with Daniel Gilsenan, Frankie McIlhern and the ever impressive Kyle Brunton. Special mention on an impressive debut from Evan Connell.
