1st Half:
Borora took to the pitch for the second time in 4 days in this early 10am kick off. The home side were chomping at the bit to win their second game of the week following a much needed 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening. Preparations were hampered before kick off though with the news that Cillian Ryan and Rocco Genockey would be missing from the defensive line for Borora. Leo Fitzgerald stepped up to the challenge alongside emerging defender Matthew Morris, Dovydas Glasas and stand in defender (from midfield) Jack Moore. Sandwiched between the back line and strikers Lochlann Reilly and Joseph McGarry were midfielders Eoin Murphy, Callum Teixeira, Thomas Whelan and Cameron McGarry.
The game was played in the back drop of some of these players haven taken part in Darkness to Light some hours earlier so the spirited performance that these players displayed only helped to show how passionate they are to play the game.
Borora struggled to get a handle on the game as Bohermeens physicality and strength was on display throughout the game - albeit some questions had to be asked about some of the challenges put in. However, Borora continued to go toe to toe with the visitors. Chances on the visiting goalkeeper were minimal to the point where he never really got a touch on the ball throughout the first 40 Minutes. On the other hand, Oisin McInerney was again the busiest player on the pitch for Borora making a number of saves and collecting the ball from onrushing attackers. As the game went on, Bohermeen began to pressure and one of their moves saw them take the lead after 27 minutes. From the goalkeepers right hand side, he witnessed the Bohermeen tear down the wing beating two defenders for pace and power before hitting a crisp right foot shot across the goal into the bottom left corner. The visitors would lead at half time. A shoulder injury to Oisin during the first half meant he would not make the start of the second half. Leo Fitzgerald took up a familiar position between the posts for the second half.
Half Time: Borora Juniors 0 - 1 Bohermeen
2nd Half:
Borora took to the pitch in the second half determined to pick up the pace and get themselves back into the game. Again they found their back line was under pressure from the off as the visitors looked to get their first points of the campaign in their 4th game. The home side did well to keep the opposition out in the early stages but the resistance was broken just 12 minutes into the second half. A wayward ball across the six yard box from near the corner flag from the defence presented an open goal to a lonely Bohermeen forward who had time to control the ball and look around before rolling the ball over the line unopposed. This one play meant that Bohermeen had total control over the game. Borora remained strong defending at will when a number of free kicks and corners were put into their box. Stand in goalkeeper Leo Fitzgerald then sustained a hand injury which saw his game appear to come to an end early. Oisin MacInerney rejoined the frame until a time that he was injured again for a second time. Having collided heavily with the over physical Bohermeen player the impact to his jaw/head saw him also ruled out early.
Bohermeen closed out the game with 3 minutes to go with a clean header from a corner as a striker rose unchallenged to head the ball into the bottom left of the goal.
Good contributions throughout from Oisin McInerney, Matthew Morris, Keelan Sheridan (on as substitute) & Lochlann Reilly.
Full-time result: Borora Juniors 0 - 3 Bohermeen
Player(s) of Match: Despite his overnight walk, Cameron McGarry again showed his attributes as a strong minded midfield player - making strong challenges and running up and down the touchline. However, (and despite the score line) it was the defensive play from new defender Matthew Morris that just stood out on a day where Borora were just not able to move up the gears. There's always the next game!
