Borora Juniors 3-1 Drogheda Utd
Borora Juniors and Drogheda Utd provided a fantastic display of talent and creativity in a pulsating match in Moynalty on Saturday morning. The rain failed to dampen this game as both teams went at each other from the start.
The visitors were better on the ball in the opening minutes and soon forced a free kick just outside the home penalty area. The visitors number 9 then unleashed a thunderous shot which flew over the defence’s wall and into the top corner. Borora kept playing their football and creating chances but the visitors keeper was having an inspired first half and kept the home team out. Halftime 0-1
Borora upped them tempo second half and again the keeper kept them out as a battle raged between himself and the Borora strikers.
The home team began to exert more pressure and fifteen minutes in forced a corner on the right side.
Sean Behan floated a perfect ball into the middle where Eanna Bennett met in flush and drilled his volley into the net. 1-1 game on.
Borora pressed again and the midfield trio of Behan , Jack Shalvey, and Dean Williams were dominant in possession. The wide men, Cathal Donoghue and Ross Blair were over running their opponents and sweeping crosses into the box. Sound defensive play from Mikey Smith, Adam O’Brien and Daniel Stafford kept the visitors resorting to long balls into the box for Leo Fitzgerald to mop up. More pressure from Shalvey and Behan as the ball was fired into Diarmuid O’Malley who laid it off smartly to Bennett who turned on a sixpence to shoot but unfortunately for the visitors the keeper hauled him down to concede a penalty. Bennett dusted himself down to smash home his and Borora’s second goal to lead 2-1.
Drogheda never gave up trying and pushed more bodies up the pitch in search of the equaliser, however this left more space for the home team to exploit. Borora pressed again for more and more shots into the box lead to the home keeper dropping the ball to Bennett to slot home his third goal of the day. Caoimhín Cussen and Dovidas Glassas came on in the second half to help press home Borora’s win. Overall an outstanding performance by Borora and kudos to Drogheda who helped make this a thoroughly entertaining game.
