U16 Division 1
OMP 3-2 Borora Juniors
Despite scoring his fourth and fifth goals in two games Èanna Bennett still ended up on the losing side after an enthralling contest in Navan on Tuesday evening.
Both teams went at it from the off and OMP got the lead as a deflected shot looped over the visitors goalkeeper inches under the bar to lead 1-0.
Borora settled after and Bennett went close on three occasions after defence splitting passes from Sean Behan, Ross Blair and Shane Bennett.
Diarmuid O’Malley was causing the defensive unit plenty of trouble nad soon forced a free kick outside the area . Bennett stepped up and nonchalantly dispatched it part the diving keeper to level the tie.
1-1 halftime
Most of the second half saw OMP pinned back in their own half as the visitors dominated possession with Darragh Rock, Eoin Gilsenan and the returning Caoimhín Cussen pressing hard to score.
This pressure eventually forced a goal as Bennett blocked a clearance which pinged into the back of the net.
Borora then soaked up the pressure as Mikey Smith, Adam O’Brien, Dean Williams and Daniel Stafford stood strong as did David Daly in goal who was rarely troubled. The as the clock ticked down the home team pushed bodies up front and got two late lucky goals to steal the points from the visitors who deserved all three points.
