Youths Eolas Technologies D2
Borora Juniors 8-0 Oldcastle United
Borora Juniors welcomed Oldcastle United to Moynalty for this season opener of the Youths Eolas Technologies D2 League. Borora pressed high from the first whistle, putting Oldcastle under immense pressure. Their pressure paid off when Alex Cussen went on a superb run from centre-back before cutting it back for Pavlo Ahbontaen to tap it in and open the scoring. Unfortunately for Borora, Cian Rourke was forced off through injury early in the half but Ben Carroll was ready to come off the bench and put a solid shift in. Mikie Mongey soon added a second to Borora’s tally with a composed finish after a good through ball from his strike partner Pavlo. Borora pressed for more goals in the first half but could not find the back of the net. At the same time, the Borora backline had to be alert to make sure they held their two goal advantage. Great defending from Conor Fitzpatrick, Patrick Gallagher, Leon Sheridan and Alex Cussen, with some good claims from keeper’ Diarmuid Coyne when needed, ensured Borora went into the break 2-0 up. The second half began in the same vain, with Borora pushing to add to their tally but some good defending from the Oldcastle backline and the keeper’ kept Borora at bay. Eventually, Borora broke through again with Alex Cussen brilliantly firing home after the ball dropped to him in the box from a corner. Conrad McIlvenna got himself on the scoresheet after breaking through from midfield to add a 4th for Borora. Mikie Mongey found himself 1 on 1 against the keeper’ and slotted it home for his second of the match, Borora’s 5th. Then came another successful corner routine and another Alex Cussen goal! A second for Alex, a 6th for Borora. Lee McKeon pounced on a loose back pass towards the Oldcastle keeper’ and fired home to add a 7th. An 8th and final goal soon followed with Mikie Mongey chipping the keeper to complete his hat-trick. Tireless midfield work from Rowland O’Reilly, Adam King, Conrad McIlvenna and then substitutes Max McIlvenna, Tommy Rogers and Daniel Halpin helped in securing the clean sheet while feeding the attackers to add to Borora’s total. Overall, it was a very good performance and result from Borora to start their league campaign and hopefully it will be a sign of good things to come for the season.
