Youths Major Shield R16

Borora Juniors 2-6 Summerhill

Borora Juniors faced Parkceltic Summerhill in this Youths Major shield Round of 16 tie on Monday evening in Moynalty. Borora knew they were in for a tough match against opposition a division above them but were ready to give it their all and put in a good performance.

The game kicked off and Borora quickly fell 1-0 behind after a lapse of concentration in defence. A spirited Borora team did not let this phase them however. Borora kept trying to play good football and battled to win the ball back whenever Parkceltic had it. Tireless work in midfield from Cian Rourke, Harry Flanagan and Adam King, along with great defensive work from Ayokunle Ali, Cillian Gaynor, Aaron Styles and Patrick Gallagher and saves from Diarmuid Coyne, made sure Summerhill didn’t increase their lead. The attack led by Conrad McIlvenna, David Rock and Phoenix Brennan combined nicely on several occasions but unfortunately Borora could not find the back of the net. Parkceltic were getting frustrated as shown by their three yellow cards in the first half. Phoenix Brennan hit the post with a great strike but still Borora could not find an equaliser.

The second half began with Mikie Mongey replacing Cian Rourke for Borora. Borora kept going forward searching for an equaliser but it agonisingly did not arrive. Summerhill eventually broke down the Borora rearguard and snatched a second for themselves. Borora then suffered a couple of injuries to their backline and had to mix things up. 2-0 soon became 4-0 but Borora to their credit did not give up. Charlie Sheridan and Èanna Bennett tested the keeper after their introductions but could not find a way through. Finally, a corner whipped in by Harry Flanagan was brilliantly met by the head of Aaron Styles who scored his first goal for the club. Summerhill again pegged Borora back with a goal of their own, 5-1. An outstanding long range effort from Mikie Mongey added a second to Borora’s tally, 5-2. Unfortunately Summerhill got a 6th soon after. The game finished 6-2 to Summerhill but Borora should take credit for their performance. A valiant effort against a side from a division above. The season comes to a close with this result but Borora should take some positives from their display and bring them forward to the next season. An up and down season but the team has come a long way in the past year and a half since they formed, hopefully the next season will be the one where it all clicks together for this team.
