Ballivor 2-3 Borora Jnrs
Some say that the summer is over and winter is coming. Not judging by the red hot temperature of Danny Gorman’s left foot and the bulletheaded Ballivor bystander who was in danger of boiling over halfway through the second half.
The first challenge was finding the ground, which was not actually in Ballivor but deepest Delvin (apparently, these days a pitch, two goals and a toilet is all you need to call yourself a Sports & Leisure Centre. It was easy to see why someone might drive past it five times
The second and much easier challenge was winning a game of football. And Borora Jnrs started well, bossing the ball and carving out some chances with Logan Wilson lively on the right and Danny Gorman putting in some dangerous balls for captain James McCabe.
Sumptuous
So it was no surprise when Gorman opened the scoring with a sumptuous finish. However the lead was only momentary as the somewhat mature looking Ballivor number nine forced an equaliser.
The first substitutions made a difference with Sean Gaynor tightening things up at the back and Louie Redmond and Oisin Gardiner livening things up at the top.
At halftime, the game was, like the UK economy on the edge of a cliff, finely poised. But two lightning strikes from that Gorman left foot gave Borora some breathing room. For the first, Gorman was given plenty of time and room on the edge of the box, picked his spot and dispatched it. For the second, Gorman was given plenty of time and room on the edge of the box, picked his spot and dispatched it.
Mazy
Like a ballet dancer in an aircraft hangar, the two goal lead gave Borora room to express themselves. Henry Pratt was off on his mazy runs, McCabe and Gardiner caused bother in the box and Wilson rattled the post with a long range shot. Meanwhile Daniel White and Fionn Nulty tracked the number nine and Jayden Sherlock and Oran McKenna shut up shop at the back.
However, there was still time for the number nine to bundle in a goal, making it 2-3 and sending Mr Bullethead’s blood pressure into the stratosphere.
With the nerves jangling more than Mr Tambourine Man and thanks to some great saves from Aaron Rothwell, Borora were able to hold on for a well deserved win and are now through to the last 8 of the Shield.
Meanwhile, Delvin police repirted finding an exploded bullet head and the remnants of a Ballivor FC tracksuit somewhere on the bog road to Navan.
