Borora Jnrs 7-0 OMP
It was a return to winning ways for Borora's U12s on Saturday. After a run of unlucky results against tough opponents, Borora rattled in seven goals in an emphatic win. But it was the style of the performance that pleased assistant director of football Bobby Kavanagh. "It was as if they listened to the coaches at the last training session," said Kavanagh. From the very first minute, the home team were on the front foot.
Captain Danny Gorman went close early on. There was also a goalline clearance from Henry Pratt. Unfortunately it was a goaline clearance to deny his own teammate Fionn Nulty the game's opening goal.
But it wasn't long before the first goal when a shot that was in absolutely no way meant to be a cross sailed into the top corner.
A second goal soon followed when excellent play down the left hand side involving Patrick Cussen, Daniel White and Gorman led to a cross into the box finished off by striker James McCabe. Gorman then scored again to put Borora three goals up at half-time.
Carry on
The home team carried on where they left off in the second half. Keeper Aaron Rothwell was allowed out of goal for the first time since October 2021 and it wasn't long before he was on the score sheet, following in a long range effort and showing just how easy this goalscoring business is. More importantly he managed to add to stop himself doing one of those ridiculous Ronaldo celebrations as his coach had told him he would be subbed off straight away.
Then substitute James Carville scored direct from a corner with his very first touch, and went straight out and bought 27 lottery tickets to capitalise on his good fortune.
Zig and Zag
Then came the goal of the game. Pratt received the ball in the middle of the pitch and with more zig and zag than a kids TV show sliced through the defence and finished in the top corner.
There was still time for Gorman to cap his captain's performance with a hatrick.
As good as the goals were, the clean sheet was just as pleasing with Jayden Sherlock and Oran McKenna more miserly than a roomful of Cavan men at a financial planning convention.
But the highlight of the day was the debut of Louis Redmond. The skilful winger was lively on both sides of the pitch and got several shots away. We look forward to seeing more of Louis in the games to come.
