1st Half:
GOAL! In what was a strong team fielded by the visitors, Borora were shocked to be trailing within 60 seconds of the kick-off. Duleek fought to win the ball in the opening seconds but it was a crisp through ball that caught the Borora backline off guard which saw the home side striker collect the ball and rush on goal to neatly lift the ball over an onrushing Leo Fitzgerald in goal. Despite a sweet finish by the home side striker, the visitors backline were not quick enough to close the attacker down before the shot was taken. The first half continued to be competitive with both sides creating chances throughout but great performances from Oisin Sheridan, Cillian Ryan, Dovydas Glasas & Eoin Fitzgerald in the backline made sure that the goal would not be breached again. Added to the mix the commanding performance in this first half by Goal keeper Leo Fitzgerald (making a number of vital saves) meant the visitors would not fall further behind. The visitors midfield of (Captain) Keelan Sheridan, Jack Moore, Cameron McGarry & Aaron McGivern continued to battle for every tackle to win back possession for their side with Lochlann Reilly and Eoin Murphy waiting to pounce up front for any opportunity that might come their way. Despite an excellent performance too from Lochlann and Eoin in this first half the visitors were unlucky not to go in at the break level.
Half Time: Duleek AFC 1 - 0 Borora Juniors
2nd Half:
With the introduction of Thomas Whelan (Midfield) for Aaron McGivern at half-time, Borora began the second half of the game knowing that the points were still there for the taking if their first half performance was anything to go by. They would have to come from behind to do this but while the home side began to dominate the ball early on, it was the concession of an innocent free kick that allowed the home side to take a 2-0 lead. Despite setting up to defend well, it was a well placed low free kick that was struck from the outside of the 18 yard box into the bottom left of Leos goal that was just out of his reach that gave Duleek a 2 - 0 lead (and some breathing space). Number 3 for the home side followed just 60 seconds later when a speculative left foot shot during play looped over the outstretched arm of Leo in goal to give the home side a lead that did not reflect the way the game was played. However, if felt as though this particular goal knocked the confidence of the visitors and invited the homeside on for more creative play which allowed them to score a further 2 goal before the final whistle. Despite the introduction of Matthew Morris and Joseph McGarry for the closing moments of the game, frustrations were evident from this point which resulted in Yellow Cards for both Leo Fitzgerld and Lochlann Reilly but, despite the scoreline (and the manner of the goals), that elusive goal never materialized for Borora despite chances created and left the visitors with three defeats in a row.
Good contributions throughout from Cameron McGarry, Oisin Sheridan, Keelan Sheridan (Captain), Eoin Fitzgerald & Lochlann Reilly
Full-time result: Duleek AFC 5 - 0 Borora Juniors
Man of Match: Jointly awarded to Eoin Murphy (despite the scoreline, his determination and persistance to try drag his team back into the game was unwaivering) & Oisin Sheridan (never say quit attitude was admirable and showed his desire to play for his team with Lochlann Reilly also inspiring during the game. .
