Castle Villa 5 v Fordrew 3
Castle Villa progressed to the 3rd round of the PM Blinds & Shutters Challenge Cup after a hard fought match on Friday evening.
Starting brightly, the hosts fell behind against the run of play. Digging deep, Castle Villa raised their game and after a great run from Patrick Chetan, got the equaliser they deserved. Shortly afterwards, the home side got a 2nd to go in at half time 2-1 up.
Fordrew raised their own game in the 2nd half and manged to score 2 quick goals to turn the score around. Castle Villa were then pushing for the equaliser which came from the spot after Garrett Hennessy was fouled inside the penalty area. The initial kick was saved by the keeper but Patrick Chetan finished the rebound.
After 90 minutes were up, it then came down to extra time, with the possibilty of penalties looming, if still all square after 2 halves of 10 minutes each. But Castle Villa dug deep again and managed to score 2 more goals - a hat-trick on the night for Patrick Chetan and 2 goals from Conor Byrne. A late penalty to Fordrew was saved by 'keeper Craig Finnegan, but a well deserved win on the night, and with some really good goals scored, Castle Villa go into the next round with confidence
