Castle Villa 1- 0 Termonfeckin Fc
U'15. Sunday April 6. 2025 k.o 11.30 am
"Fair 'Feckin' do's to ye."
This match started the way the previous one finished, with Borora's front line of Pratt, Cussen and Kerrigan defending from the front. Supported by the midfield trio of J. Sherlock, White and Nulty winning tackles, breaking up play and spraying passes forward.
Termonfeckin barely got out of their half in the opening 35 minutes. On the rare occasion that they did the back line of Gardiner, O'Sullivan, B Sherlock and Byrne won the ball back, blocked any kind of shot or shepherded the ball back to the safe hands of Keeper McCabe .
Corners, free kicks and shots went in on the visitors goal but the breakthrough wouldn't come .
Replacements were made at half time, Harten and Gilsenan came on and both effected the game in attack and defence. Villa were getting closer but still no goal.
"Is there anything to be said for saying another mass ? "
Far too late for another mass Father. This was a time for action. Borora pressed like a team searching for an equaliser, (while the opposition were hanging in for a nil nil draw). With three minutes to go the home side almost needed one as for once Termonfeckin broke through and with just the keeper to beat it looked like disaster would strike . McCabe rushed off his line and spread his body as the strike went in. The ball looped up the air as his right foot averted disaster and the follow up shot ballooned over the bar.
Suddenly stalemate didn't seem like such a bad result. But the home side had other ideas .
A last minute corner was half cleared. White sent in a skewed effort which the keeper clawed away from his near post only for the ball to drop to the feet of Captain Pratt who lobbed the ball over the head of the hapless keeper. Slow motion ensued as the ball drifted towards the far post curling in just enough to clip the inside of the post and nestle in the back of the net. Joy and relief unabated followed. A dominant performance, almost snatched and grabbed at the death only to find the latest of winners sent players, coaches and spectators home with a giant spring in their steps .
