CastleVilla 2 ParkCeltic Summerhill 1
The Div3A side opened their league account with a win on Friday night after a hard fought and entertaining game in Villa Park.
The home side took the lead through Ken Edeh after receiving the ball on the edge of the box, turning his marker brilliantly and shooting low and hard across the keeper into the bottom corner.. Villa had some other good chances, particularly a free kick from James Brady which just went over the crossbar. Unfortunately the home side ended up conceding a penalty shortly after, which the away side converted to level the score.
The 2nd half started off where the 1st half ended.. both sides creating some good chances.. both Villa fullbacks getting into good forward positions.
The home side went close when Ken Edeh crossed the ball across the goal, but was just too fast for Dylan Francis to get good contact on..but Villa were next to score with a superb effort by Scott Lynch, who took a shot from outside to box and hit it over the keeper into the roof of the net.. no more than what the Villa deserved.. However, shortly after, the Villa lost possession in the middle of the park, and ParkCeltic moved the ball quickly into an attacking position.. the ball was passed in behind the defence, with the home keeper coming out to sweep up but missed the ball and connected with the attacker, leading to a yellow card and a penalty. The away side were calling for a red, but the attacker was not in possession of the ball, and so the referee made the correct decision.. the penalty was ultimately saved by our keeper Jono, and the lead was maintained. The away support made their feelings known to the referee, who had no choice but to show a red card to one of the substitutes..
The Villa had the ball in back of the net for a 3rd time, but the ref blew for an offside, which was the right decision..
Villa could have scored one or two more, but Gareth Reillys effort going narrowly wide, and a fantastic looping effort by Chris Varga going just over the bar. Overall a great performance, lead by Man of the Match and Captain Richie McKeever..
