Castle Villa got back to winning ways with a big 4-1 win away to Grove Rangers in Drogheda.

Having been on the wrong side of results in recent weeks, Villa were determined to win this one and started strongly. The 6th minute of the game saw great work on the edge of the box by Captain Richie McKeever who then unselfishly passed it on for striker Tom Beirne to score. GOAL! 1-0 to Villa. From there, Grove grew into the game and started to cause a few problems. However, Villa’s backline of James Kirk, Ben Auxilly, Eric Molloy, Janis Zemelis and Steven Mooney, alongside keeper Jono Francis kept Grove scoreless. It wasn’t long before Villa added to their tally with a second goal arriving in the 30th minute. Mikie Mongey opened his account for the season with a stunning volley on the edge of the box. GOAL! 2-0 to Villa. It got even better for Mongey just before halftime. James Brady got the ball forward to Mikie who unleashed a shot too high for the keeper to get a hand to. GOAL! 3-0 to Villa at the interval.

Halftime saw a slight formation change for Villa and they came out with the same attitude that had them 3-0 up. Collecting the ball near halfway, James Brady carried it to the edge of the Grove box before passing it off to Tom Beirne. Beirne, who had no problem finding the net earlier, beat two players and finished nicely into the corner for his second of the day. GOAL. 4-0 to Villa. After tireless work up front, Dylan Francis made way for Gareth Reilly. Goal-scorers Mongey and Beirne also made way following great performances, being replaced by Dean Murtagh and Ralf Zemelis. These three changes brought fresh legs to the Villa attack. Villa continued to dominate across the park with great work in the midfield by Brady and McKeever. Conor Farrell and Dylan Gargan replaced Mooney and Kirk, who both put in a great shift. Ben Auxilly was fearless going into tackles and Jono Francis made some great saves, including one near the end from a free kick. Grove did nick a consolation goal in the 84th to make it 4-1 but it wasn’t enough as Villa ran out comfortable winners.
A big 3 points on the road and a nice way to celebrate Gaffer Jason Clarke’s birthday.
