U15 Division 2
Borora Juniors v Trim Celtic
Borora Juniors welcomed Trim Celtic AFC for their Division 2 fixture on a very warm Sunday lunchtime. The away side started the game in dominant fashion, being first to every breaking ball and were dominant in the tackle. The away side broke the line several times but Kavanagh in the home sides goal was in good form, preventing the opener on two occasions before Trim finally broke through when a lapse of concentration in the home defence allowed the attacker to the ball first and he calmly slotted past the helpless keeper. The ref blew for a much needed water break, giving the home side a chance for a breather.
Rogan began to show his pace when breaking only to scuff his shot wide when he only had the keeper to beat.
The home side began to get a foothold in the game and equalised against the run of play when Rohan once again broke the defensive line and carried the ball into the box and slotted the ball neatly past the onrushing keeper. The half finished shortly after and the home side could feel slightly fortunate to go in level.
The second half began with Borora looking to take control of the game and were rewarded when Delaney fed a morauding Murray down the right flank who fizzed in a delightful cross which was just about undefendable and Gilsenan slid in to get the decisive touch and the home side took the lead.
Trim began to press once more and were keeping the pressure on with a succession of corners, the 3rd of which Kelliher got his foot to the ball and cleared the penalty box. Delaney collected the ball and fed McGovern who in turn pinged a first time pass through to Rogan down the right who then fed Brunton who was unmarked in the middle and he calmly slotted into the empty net. 3-1 to the home side.
Trim weren’t done and immediately sprang upfield and after what looked a take shot from the right, Kavanagh spilled the ball right into the path of the lone striker, right in front of goal and he calmly poked home. Game on again. 3-2
The second half water break followed immediately and once more gave the 2 sides some respite from the heat.
The remaining 15 minutes was one-way traffic with Borora pressing. McGovern smashed a free-kick against the bar and the frame of the goal had hardly stopped rattling when he picked the ball up in midfield once more before beating an opponent and driving towards the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot right into the top corner leaving the keeper flapping at fresh air.
4-2 to the home side.
There was still time for the away side to press once more and following a great save by Kavanagh, the big defender rose for the resulting corner and nodded powerfully into the empty net. Game on again.
As the game was drawing to a close, the impressive Rogan strode clear once more and was rewarded again for his tenacity when he smashed home from the edge of the box.
The ref blew for full time with the home side running out deserved winners in the end.
