Spring finally arrived as Borora Juniors travelled to Athboy Celtic for their second fixture in what has been a frustrating start to the new season with cancelled fixtures.
The game started with both teams feeling each other out before Borora looked to gain control after 10 minutes. The away side broke the line several times with the tenacious Komorowski going on a mazy run from Right wing back past several defenders before unleashing a shot which passed agonisingly close to the home sides far post. Unlucky from the away sides wing back.
Rogan began to show his pace when breaking clear again, only to slice his finish wide when looking nailed on to open the scoring.
The home side began to get a foothold in the game and took the lead from a corner when the striker got his head to the ball first, firing passed the unfortunate Kavanagh in the away sides goal.
Athboy pushed for a second before the break and would have had at least 1 more, only for the inspired away keeper who pulled off several brilliant stops to keep Borora in the game. The ref blew for half time with the game slightly in the home sides favour. 1-0 to Athboy.
The second half began in the same manner as the first with Borora pushing for the equaliser, only to be frustrated in front of goal by some last ditch blocks by the Athboy defence.
Athboy sprang upfield against the run of play and earned another corner after a fabulous block by Kelliher and from the resulting kick, an Athboy defender found himself wide open only to force a tremendous save from Kavanagh, not once but twice and the rebound fell again at the feet of the Home sides striker, only for him to smash the ball home. 2-0 and Borora were now up against it.
The away side never gave up and pressed to get something from ten game and were rightfully rewarded when Rogan sprang the defence and slotted home with the onrushing keeper stranded. Game on!
The remaining 10 minutes was one-way traffic with Borora pressing for the equaliser but the home defence were inspired, getting blocks to just about every attempt.
The ref blew for full time with the away side feeling unfortunate not to have got something from the game.
