Youths Plate Quarter Final
Borora Juniors 3-1 Athboy Celtic
Borora Juniors welcomed Athboy Celtic to Moynalty for the quarter final of the youths plate on Sunday morning. Having had several tough encounters against the away side, Borora knew they would be in for a battle to reach the semi final.
Borora started well, pressing high from the front with Jack Butler, Phoenix Brennan and Pavlo Ahbontaen. The Borora midfield consisting of David Butler, Conrad McIlvenna and Dean Williams worked hard from the outset, winning the ball back and progressing it up the field. Borora’s passing was brilliant throughout the first half and they finally got the goal they deserved midway through the half. Jack Butler’s sensational close control and dribbling led to him getting in behind the Athboy backline and through on goal. A neat finish to the bottom left corner resulted in Borora going 1-0 up. Brothers Rowland and Lochlann O’Reilly entered the fray to add more energy in the first half. Keeper’ Oisin McInerney made a fantastic low save from a free-kick to ensure that Borora kept their lead going into the break.
Halftime came and went and Borora started the second half determined to maintain their lead and add to it. More brilliant dribbling from Jack Butler early in the half led to him being through on goal again. He showed great composure and finished well to double Borora’s lead. The Borora sideline were buzzing. Things only got better for Borora soon after when the referee pointed to the spot for a Borora penalty. Penalty taker David Butler stepped up and smashed it into the top corner to further Borora’s lead. 3-0 to Borora. More subs arrived with Ben Carroll and Èanna Bennett entering the field of play. A deflected shot unfortunately made its way into the back of the Borora net to make it 3-1 and Athboy started to crank up the pressure. However, the defence of Conor Fitzpatrick, Cian Rourke, Luke Quinn and Patrick Gallagher, along with Oisin in goals, held firm. Ben Quinn came on up front for his second Borora appearance and done some brilliant running, pressing and chasing every ball. Ben Carroll put in a great shift in the middle and at right back too. Some fantastic defending and tireless work from everyone on the pitch ensured that Borora maintained their 3-1 lead for the rest of the game. A brilliant performance by Borora and a win that saw them reach the semi finals of a competition that they are hoping to go all the way in.
