1st Half:
Borora landed in Enfield on Saturday for this 11:30 kickoff at Flomax park hoping for the same outcome result wise as the reverse fixture some 3 weeks earlier when super sub Eoin Murphy came off the bench to net Borora last minute winner and deservedly take the 3 points after a 2-1 win. Borora came into the game in high spirits knowing that their performance would have to be on point if they were to take the points again. Borora were able to field a strong line up against Enfield and this was evident with ever present Liam brady, Matthew Morris, Lochlann Reilly and stand in defender (from midfield) Cameron McGarry starting across the defensive line. Evan Yore made his second start since coming back into the team in Midfield with Callum Teixeira and Kevin Fitzpatrick positioning themselves either side of Evan. Cillian Ryan pushed out from defence to play in midfield hugging the touchline while Aaron McGivern played on the opposite side of midfield running down the left side. Keelan Sheridan was grinning from ear to ear getting his chance to play up front as Borora's sole striker in the absence of unwell Eoin Murphy.
Conor Yore and Thomas Whelan kept the bench company from the beginning of the game and were also eager to get out and play and showcase their ability.
Borora started the much stronger of the two teams and pressed the opposition in every position of the pitch. Determined performances across the wall that was Bororas midfield meant that Enfield's efforts to get into some form of rhythm in the game was thwarted on each occasion. In those rare moments when it looked like Enfield could possibly make inroads towards the visitors goal, Liam brady and Matthew Morris were on hand to break up the play. Lochlann Reilly was ever present also to showcase his consistency in winning nine out of 10 tackles that he will make. So well was the performance from Borora in the early stages of the game and indeed through out the first half, goalkeeper Oisin MacInerney was merely a spectator through vast portions of the first half. Indeed it was the home goalkeeper that was the busier of the two. One of the bigger touches that he had in the early stages of the game was to pick the ball out of his own net in the first 5 minutes after a neat finish from Keelan Sheridan to put Borora 0 - 1 up. A fine ball over the top of the Enfield defence was pounced on by Keelan who ran at pace towards the Enfield goal to strike the ball across the goal low and hard into the bottom right across the goalkeeper to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Borora's immense play continued and their pressure told when they scores a further second goal early in the first half. After winning a number of corners, which were superbly delivered by Liam Brady, Liam again delivered another corner which had Enfield scrambling but nobody picked up the run of Evan Yore who deftly headed the ball towards goal from about ten yards. Unfortunately Evans header struck the underneath of the crossbar and in coming back down it hit the head of the goalkeeper and went into the back of the net. 0 - 2 to Borora and deservedly so.
Borora's play throughout the first half continued to limit Enfields opportunities to create chances and it was the trio across midfield (Evan Yore, Kevin Fitzpatrick and Callum Teixeira) that battled hard to ensure that no mistakes were made - giving Enfield potential chances - and covering in different areas to cover players that had moved out of position. Even the slighted touch on the ball from this trio in tackles were enough the disrupt Enfield play and subsequently make further chances for Borora. The performance that the visitors put in throughout the first half was immense and as the half progressed they created further chances to put the game out of sight but might have made that one extra pass when the better option could have been to take a shot on goal. However, Borora would have to settle for just the two goals at the break.
Half Time: Enfield Celtic 0 - 2 Borora Juniors
2nd Half:
Borora knew that Enfield would have more to offer in the second half and despite their how dominant Borora were in the first half, Enfield DID raise their game at the start of the second half. The half time introduction of Conor Yore and Thomas Whelan for Kevin Fitzpatrick and Matthew Morris respectively Enfield were quicker to the ball and managed to find space to pass the ball neatly and make inroads towards Borora's goal. However, the five across midfield and defensive back four managed to work as a strong team to ensure Enfield were kept out. Lochlann Reilly shone strong throughout the pressure in helping Borora keep a clean sheet. This meant that Enfield were at times limited to long range shots which were either sent wide or over. If any shots were on target, Oisin Mac was eager to get involved in the game and control his area. One of Enfields distant shots was saved by Oisin and in saving the ball, cleared it out back into play where Enfield managed to reduce the deficit to 1-2 - thirteen minutes into the second half. Enfield then rallied to drag themselves back level but this was the goal that actually rallied Borora who in turn then managed to again dominate the ball.
From Bororas pressure, the visitors managed to regain their two goal advantage on 69 minutes. As the ball was bouncing around the Enfield 18 yard box, Cameron McGarry (who had now resumed his place on the wing in midfield) picked up the ball in the box and from a standing position side footed the ball with his right foot into the goal. Striking the ball off the underside of the crossbar in the process meant that the goalkeeper could not have got near it to save it. With the score now at 1-3. Borora continued to press and create further chances. Cillian Ryan impressed in creating these chances for Borora in making sprinting runs up and down the touchline. Kevin Fitzpatrick had reentered the game midway through the first half and continued where he had left off in the half time break and continued to help Borora secure the 1-3 win for Borora. There were no further goals in the game and despite a Yellow card shown to Thomas Whelan in the closing stages the three points headed back to Moynalty with Borora in a well deserved win.
Full time: Enfield Celtic 1 - 3 Borora Juniors
Player of Match: In a game where the visitors dominated large parts of the game there were a lot of excellent performances from every player in the Borora gold but its midfield where the battle was won and in particular the two holding midfield players of Callum Teixeira and Kevin Fitzpatrick. Both players excelled in breaking up the home teams play and winning the ball back for their team. Well done to both players on a great performance.
