1st Half:
After 2 games away in the last 8 days, Borora returned home to Moynalty to face Enfield Celtic in this late 18:45kick off. After the disappointment of coming away from these two previous games without any deserved points , there was an air of optimism within the home side that the victory was there for the taking but that the same level of intensity and energy would be needed as was displayed against the league leaders (Albion Rovers) and Drogheda Town.
In what was a strong line up for the home side in quite some weeks, Borora had ever reliable Oisin MacInerney between the posts with Cillian Ryan, Matthew Morris, Liam Brady and Rocco Genockey sitting in front of him in the defensive back line. Cameron McGarry took his predicted position on the right side (hugging the touch line) with Callum Teixeira keeping him company in midfield. Kevin Fitzpatrick and Joseph McGarry earned their place in midfield following their display against Drogheda Town a few days earlier. Aaron McGivern made up the midfield 5 playing on the left of the pitch. Yet again, Jack Moore played up front as the sole striker in place of captain Eoin Murphy who was feeling under the weather. Borora's bench was warmed up by a further strong and formidable line up of Keelan Sheridan, Oisin Sheridan, Thomas Whelan and aforementioned Eoin Murphy.
Watching on too were two impending new players to rejoin the team in the form of Evan Yore and Conor Yore who will be eager and anxious to get playing in the coming weeks.
Borora were adamant that the beginning to this game would not mirror the same as the game against Drogheda when they found themselves 1-0 down in less than 2 minutes. This time around they did start the better side but found themselves behind after only 5 minutes following a breakaway from their own box to finish neatly to take a surprising lead. Borora were not to be undone though and levelled just 9 minutes later when one of Jack Moore's pacey sprints towards the opposition goal gave him the reward he deserved to this point in the game. 1-1 after 14 minutes.
There were further chances for both sides throughout the first half with Borora shading the game in possession and dominant play. When Enfield did manage to string a few passes together and threaten the Borora goal, Oisin Mac was on hand to make a number of phenomenal saves that would you expect the opposition to finish off each time.
Half Time: Borora Juniors 1 - 1 Enfield Celtic
2nd Half:
While the second half was a bit more competitive from the visitors, there were a number of chances created by the home side. As Enfield fought to get back into the game, the home side midfield, inclusive of substitutes Oisin, Keelan and Thomas, were quick to put in physical tackles that ultimately won the ball back for the home side. Kevin Fitzpatrick also made formidable challenges with Callum Teixeira rejoining the game in the latter stages to replicate the work ethic his team mates had continued to perform.
With 10 minutes to go, Eoin Murphy entered the game hoping to make an impact after feeling somewhat better, It was the introduction of Eoin playing up front (with Jack dropping to midfield position) that helped borora increase the pressure on the visitors. Borora continued to pressure the visitors goal to a point where they won a number of free kicks and corners. With 1 minute to go, Borora again won a corner and noting the time that was left, decided to crowd the 6 yard box with players. Liam Brady, the corner specialist delivered the most perfect ball into the centre of the box. Rising unchallenged (following his clever movement) was Captain Eoin Murphy to head the ball into the bottom right of the keeper goal to take the deserved lead. Que the wild celebrations from the bench and small home crowd in what was believed to be the winning goal. Borora comfortably saw out the last minute of the game and collected the desired 3 points on offer.
Borora now expect Dunshaughlin Youths to visit Moynalty on Tuesday evening for their next game which will be a further challenge to the home sides intentions of collecting as many points as possible before the final game of the league season.
Full time: Borora Juniors 2 - 1 Enfield Celtic
Player of Match: In a game where Borora felt the exertions of the previous game, there were good performances all round by all players with defensive line having to be alert throughout the game. Cillian Ryan and Matthew Morris shone throughout the game on the right of the back 4 with Cillian making sprinting runs down the touchline towards opposition goal while Matthew grew in confidence minute by minute making defensive sprints to cover attacking players and cutting out through balls at ease. Well done Cillian and Matthew yet again for exceptional play.
